Power Supply Assessment

The introduction of tram-train technology on the Sheffield to Rotherham line is currently being delivered through a trial scheme in conjunction with Network Rail. This will connect Network Rail infrastructure to the South Yorkshire Supertram infrastructure, enabling operation of both light rail and heavy rail systems.

Navitas Engineering was commissioned by Stagecoach Supertram to undertake a Power Supply Assessment to compliment the findings of system modelling. As part of this assessment, substation and tram load measurements were proposed, the methodology specified and implemented.

Work has been undertaken in order to:

• Carry out a programme of load monitoring and analyse the resulting data;

• Correlate the results against previous modelling findings;

• Provide guidance on next steps and required further work where relevant.
